How To Add “Nofollow” Attribute In Your Blogroll

blogroll How To Add Nofollow Attribute In Your Blogroll

I remember when I started blogging I was always in Blogcatalog and MyBlogLog site (actually until now, only not most of the time like before), co-mingle with other bloggers. And one of the first thing I learn from them is to exchange links, where I find most of the blogger asking for reciprocal link. So I google around, what’s the benefits of it and advantages, but unknowingly I miss all the disadvantages. Too bad eh!
With my search, it tell me that having a lot of links outside your site is good for PageRanking and most of the Social Networks Advertiser will also required you about it, they even advice you to exchange links with other blogger. So in short, that’s what I did. In just a week I almost got a 20 exchange links response, it’s almost fill my whole sidebar. So it force me to change my theme, looking for 2 sidebar. And finally I take a pause exchanging links. So right now if you see my sidebar, I currently using a drop-down blogroll widget just to accommodate my long list of blogroll. Revisiting is my next move, I don’t like just to delete them, It’s not good anyway. So I’m still searching the best way to retain their link as I promise to them and at the same time finding a solution not to hurt my PageRanking.
As I believe, every bloggers know that keeping a long list of links in your blogroll is pretty good to promote your readers, friends, or websites, that’s why some really have no idea, that it might potentially harm your Google PR. So to retain your Google PR and at the same time your integrity to your fellow blogger is to put the “rel=nofollow” attribute in your blogroll. they will understand that :)
So, if you want to add “rel=Nofollow” attribute in your WordPress blogroll, follow these steps which I get the idea at www.avanish.ws:

To start:
Don’t forget to backup your database first!
Open your site’s file manager and edit this file: /wp-admin/edit-link-form.php

Find:

  1. <th scope=”row”> < ?php _e(’friendship’) ?> </th>
  2. <td>
  3. </td>

Add the following code under the “td” section:

  1. <label for=”nofollow”>
  2. <input class=”valinp” type=”radio” name=”friendship” value=”nofollow” id=”nofollow” <?php xfn_check(‘friendship’, ‘nofollow’, ‘radio’); ?/> /> < ?php _e(‘nofollow’) ?>
  3. </label>

Save the file and check your WordPress Administration panel. Now if you go to the “Blogroll” tab, you’ll find an radio option to add “nofollow” attribute in your blogroll links, click it and update your blogroll.
Checklist:
Update your WordPress version with latest version now (V2.5.1) before doing this hack or your may overwrite your “edit-link-form.php” and delete everything you had done.
That’s it, Enjoy!
