If you guys notice this fast few weeks I don’t have much activities on this site. So to give you some insight whats going on to me right now is to let you know that I’m working on right now with my new website. It’s actually what you can call a YouTube clone website. it’s a video sharing site, where visitors can share their favorite video by submitting their favorite video from a supported video share hosting site, like YouTube, Google video and Dailymotion.
The main visitors target on this site is my fellow country man :), Pinoy. so most of the video that you can find here is all reflects the Filipino cultures wherein most of the Filipino submitted their video, TV show, festival, happening, music video and everything you can imagine, but I keep monitoring it to make sure that only family friendly videos was been submitted. So to let you know what type on CMS I’m using for this one. It’s PHPDirector by Ben Swanson, I can say this one is a very promising content management system with a large active member, but since it was abandon by Ben Swanson for almost 6months from now. Most of the member started to lost interest on the project due to absence of the leadership of Ben. Right now it was keep running by dedicated old members and new members to make this project keep going and alive. Just like me as a new member, sharing my thought and skills with other PHPDirector user is the best thing I can give to the community and with this new site that I build running in PHPDirector latest version, I can exchange my workaround, some mod works and bugs. This is really a nice CMS, not only it was free but the web hosting requirement is not that complicated. So lucky me since my web host don’t give me a real technical support but only giving me Google results and that’s it, even the problem can only be access by database administrator. No shame to tell what’s the name of my web host, it’s Netfirms. Keep that in mind. Ok, I’m started to get too emotional, because of my unresolved simple problem with my other site that I can make it run due to my database problem. let’s continue what is this post all about.
I can still recommend PHPDirector since I’m still one of the member that won’t lost hope that anytime soon, Ben Swanson will be back in the scene as he promise in his last post in the forum for the next version release as he reason that his college study will become more demanding of his time. So as summer approaching at the end of school year, a possible Ben Swanson appearance is on the line and the project will move on. So as I keep active in the community, I can see how each member really doing a great job in the project, with bounce and leap. With smarty template engine use in the project I can see it was another opportunity again for me to be introduce to another programming language and to learn from it. So if you are in the idea of building a video sharing site and you think you have the talent needs by PHPDirector community why not share it and start your site with this great open source CMS.
