Happy Halloween Everybody!

jacko lantern 300x225 Happy Halloween Everybody!

The Day of the Dead, scary custom, scary pumpkin? How about some respect to my childhood super robot “Voltes V” . It’s not a decapitated version, it just so happen the other four member of the Voltev V (the “V”pronounce as Five) is on the cemetery like other Filipino visiting their loved ones and take time to clean their graves. icon smile Happy Halloween Everybody! I know they are not Filipino but I only want to grab this space to explain how Filipino celebrates the “Day of the Dead”icon biggrin Happy Halloween Everybody!

On November 1 of each year, many people in the Philippines celebrate the Day of the Dead, called Araw ng mga Patay. Families visit with their lost loved ones and take time to clean their graves. Unlike Mexico’s festivities, the Philippines’ Day of the Dead celebration feels more like a family reunion than a wild party.

History:
Since a lot of stuff going on after the release of the OFW 5.00 last week and also the release of PSP Brite, here what’s new with: Dark AleX’s PSP custom firmware 5.00 M33.
• 4.01 to 5.00
• Bug fix: when changing speed in xmb, and the psp turned the brightness to 0 automatically the speed was reseted to 222 again.
More notes from Dark AleX are included in the readme.

-Dark AleX also did a quick respond in their forums, responding to some reported problems with loading PSX games on CFW 5.00.
Here’s his note:
Some people have noticed an error 0xFFFFFFFF appearing launching their psx games.
The reason of this is due to some converters like psx2psp using 32 bits depth when converting the png icon, and new pops only support 24 bits format.
In future versions M33 will check if the depth is invalid, and in that case replace the icon by the dracula one, anyways this is not critical, and an update won’t be released only for this.
If you want to make those psx games work in this version, reconvert them using popstation command line tool and using a 80×80 24 bits png icon. Alternativelly if you want to continue using psx2psp and you don0t mind about savedata icon being dracula one, go to options in psx2psp, and in icon0 select “Old default”.
He has also then released a bugfix for this PSX problem. For now, he won’t release a new CFW version just for this update, but for those who want a quick fix, here it is.
This is a bug in M33 code that is caused sometimes with certain icons. I’m not gonna bother do an update only for this but I’ll post the file that fixes this for anyone wanting to fix it manually replacing the file.
This also fixes document.dat not working.

Hackable PSP Brite?

sony psp 30001 300x141 Hackable PSP Brite?

Dark AleX already explained from his site to the PSP homebrew community why the TA-088 v3 motherboard of the new Slim models can’t be hacked yet.

He even gave us a flowchart to boot. Now, he gives the Homebrew community the “TA-088 v3 identifier”, a simple app just to ease the craving of homebrew user with their new PSP-3000 to run a homebrew app. But the main use of this app is to find out once and for all whether your new “PSP Brite” has a hackable motherboard or not.

To run “TA-088 v3 identifier” follow the instruction (thanks to PSPHacks):

Copy each firmware EBOOT, both 3.90 and 4.05, to the root of your memory stick. Launch the TA-088v3 Identifier (GETIPL) from a homebrew-enabled PSP and it will extract and create the IPLs; if you’re good to go, the app should auto-exit in 10 seconds. This leaves you with an “ipl390.bin” and “ipl405.bin” file in the memory stick’s root.

Next, do this –

* Connect the PSP via USB.
* Format a memory stick with the included “mspformat” tool.
* Use “msinst” to install the 3.90 IPL onto the freshly formatted memory stick.
* Insert the memory stick into the PSP to be TA-088v3 tested.
* Turn it on with a Pandora Battery. Two (2) possible results:
o PSP immediately turns off — your PSP is NOT equipped with a TA-088v3 motherboard.
o PSP stays on with the green light — your PSP is a TA-088v3, or perhaps you’ve done something wrong. Continue…
* Connect the PSP via USB again.
* Repeat the above steps with the 4.05 IPL. Again, two (2) possible results:
o If the PSP turns off immediately with this IPL and it previously remained on with the green light — this indicates a TA-088v3 board.
o PSP and the green light remain on — you’ve likely done something wrong. Try again.
o Whatever the indicator — the TA-088v3 ain’t hacked yet.
