How to Play Guitar Hero-DS without Guitar Grip

guitar hero ds

Last Monday I received my M3-DS Real adapter which I order in R4 Canada, so after I installed all the apps and games I needed. And I stumble upon this hack about how to play the Guitar Hero for NDS without the Guitar Grip peripheral, it was cool, right? so I give this hack a try and it works like a charm to me. Actually this is my first hack I apply to my DS. I’m not actually a fan of Guitar Hero but I find this hack quite interesting so I give this one a try and it’s cool. The only set back on this hack is the configuration of the controller, I find it hard and tedious. I’m not sure who created this hack, hopefully he will create an update on this hack. Let’s start the hack and enjoy!

How-To:

  1. Download the ARM9 file here.
  2. Download DSLazy.
  3. Unzip and Open DSlazy folder
  4. Click dzlazy.exe and then select your clean Rom (Guitar Hero)
  5. Select NDS unpack, you will see a folder with the unpacked Rom
  6. Replace the original arm9.bin file with the new one that you download in step 1
  7. Select NDS repack.
  8. Make sure your rom file is on NDS folder of your Micro SD.
  9. Insert it to your M3-DS adapter
  10. Insert M3-DS adapter to your Nintendo DS and play !!!!

Control ABYX - Button list
X= red
B= Yellow
A= blue
Y=green

UPDATE: For D-Pad control configuration

down-green
up- red
left-yellow
right-blue

As of now somebody is working on to change the D-pad control configuration as per public demand. You can join the discussion here and to be updated on the development of the mod.

Note: This will only work if you have M3-DS Real adapter (I’m not sure for R4 and M3-DS Simply adapter).

Disclaimer: Hack and enjoy at your own risk:wink:

    verified on the R4, works perfectly. Now, if one could only get over the flaw of playing it with buttons instead of the grip well enough to merrit it a substitute

    Hi philthy and gloria,

    Do you mind guys to explain exactly what happen when your using the DSlazy.exe?
    Make sure you don’t download a corrupt file and try winrar to unzip it. Then double click the dslazy.exe, the dslazy v0.6 windows will pop-up.

    ok here’s were I’m at,
    start dslazy.
    load Gh rom.
    Unpacks to a folder.
    replace bin 9 with one above.

    This is were I’m a bit confused, does DS lazy just make anew GH rom?.
    If so I then put this new GH on my ds, but just get black screen now, instead of hardware warning….why??

    thanks

    @TT:
    I see that your doing it right, DSLazy actually unpack your existing rom and then repack it again. It’s like winzip I can say, DSLazy don’t actually create a new rom. So once you unpacked it, replace the “bin9″ with the one you download and then repack it and then your done. Put you rom now in the root directory of your MicroSD and enjoy! Hope it’s help.

    Yeah it’s cool and it works on R4.. but the controls sucks a lot :O
    X= red
    B= Yellow
    A= blue
    Y=green
    It’s totally illogical! Almost impossible to play :|
    A great config can be:
    X = Green
    Y = Red
    B = Yellow
    A = Blue
    And.. the BEST config is for SURE this:
    R = Green
    X = Red
    Y = Yellow
    B = Blue
    There is a way for edit the arm9.bin file?

    To unpack it click the nds unpack button (with saw icon) second from the right and to repack it click the nds packer button (with gear icon) last on the right side.

    I never experience the same problem like yours so I have no idea about it, Maybe try to upload it again to your PSP, start from step 1 and let see what will be happen.

    my dslazy doesnt work it was saying “failed to initialize properly”what do i do

    Posted October 8, 2008 at 10:45 am | Permalink

    dslazy requires .net runtime to run.
    So if you get the failed to initialize… error install the .net framework.

    it tells me to set a registry key to point to the .net framework install location, what do that mean?
